Caring for Your Latex Attire
Latex garments require thoughtful care to maintain their allure. Please take a moment to review these guidelines. With proper care, your latex pieces can endure for many years.
1. Cleaning Your Latex Clothing
Handle with care during washing! After wearing a catsuit or similar item, a quick rinse in the shower helps but isn't enough. For optimal care, wash your latex clothing in lukewarm water with a specialized latex detergent or a mild, unscented dishwashing detergent in a hand basin or bathtub (do not use other household cleaners).
Thoroughly rinse and hang the item inside out on a plastic hanger (or towel dry). Then, reverse it and hang it on the hanger until completely dry. An effective cleaning method is to fill a sink or bath with lukewarm water (no soap), turn the garment inside out, swish it around, hang it on a plastic hanger right side out, and then turn it inside out to dry on the inside. Store it with unscented baby powder on the inside and polished on the outside using a latex preservative.
Avoid harsh soaps, chlorine, or bleach as they can damage latex, even if rinsed quickly. This includes swimming pool or hot tub water.
Machine washing and tumble drying are not recommended.
Cleaning Chlorinated Latex Clothing: Chlorinated latex pieces are easier to maintain and are washed similarly to untreated latex clothing. After washing, they won't stick together.
2. Removing Your Latex Clothing
To prevent damage when taking off latex clothing, especially catsuits, it's easier to do so under the shower or in a bathtub. Apply liquid shower soap inside the neck and shoulders, and your catsuit will slide off easily. Never tug or pull; instead, push the material using your thumbs tucked inside the garment.
Be cautious: Clothes with attached socks or latex stockings are slippery when wet, so take care to avoid accidents in the shower.
3. Proper Storage of Your Latex Clothing
Store latex garments in a cool, dark place like a wardrobe or drawer. Avoid prolonged exposure to sunlight as UV rays can damage the material. Use garment bags for larger items and lightly talc smaller ones before sealing them in zip-lock or similar plastic bags in a drawer.
Beware of plastic hangers that may stretch, split, or damage the shoulders if used for extended periods.
Preventing Discoloration: Keep light-colored latex (e.g., white, pink, beige) away from darker latex, textiles, metals, accessories, jeans buttons, money, belt buckles, and shoes to prevent unattractive discoloration and stains that cannot be removed. Avoid contact with body care products, perfume, and theater makeup, as they contain substances that can harm and discolor latex.
Important: Avoid petroleum-based products like Vaseline, as they can deteriorate latex.
4. Additional Tips
Enhancing Latex Shine: Use specialized sprays and polishes like silicone oil and Vivishine for a glossy finish. Apply them with a damp kitchen sponge for an even coat.
Wearing Latex Under Normal Clothing: It's best to avoid wearing latex under regular clothing as it can become matte at points of contact, making it difficult to restore a permanent shine.
Plastics and Latex: Be cautious with plastics that contain plasticizers, as they can harm latex. Silicone or soft materials, such as silicone toys, should not be in prolonged contact with latex.
Latex Longevity: With proper storage and care, latex clothing can last for many years. The lifespan depends on care, frequency of wear, and stress on the garment.
Lubricants and Powders: Vivishine Dress is recommended for easy wear. Alternatively, unscented baby powder can be used. Ensure your skin is dry before application. If using powder, apply it inside the garment for even distribution.
Precautions: Avoid sharp objects, copper, oils, and storing latex in sunlight. If a seam splits, return the garment to us for repair under warranty, or attempt a patch kit. Tears are not considered manufacturer defects and are not covered by the warranty.
Most importantly, keep latex garments away from metals and moisture.
